Mt Cook Lakeside Retreat is a luxury retreat located in the Mackenzie Basin alongside Lake Pukaki.  The Retreat offers luxury villa accommodation, weddings, executive retreat, conferences and bespoke events.  Our guests are discerning, and we deliver a luxury experience that goes beyond the physical presence and amenities and extends to all levels of service and activity on the Retreat.

We are currently searching for and assessing candidates to fill the position of Senior Lodge Assistant for the coming summer season.  The ideal candidates will ideally have all the skills listed below and be willing to perform them to the highest standards that the Retreat is known for.

Our top priority is the experience of our guests that come to stay or event with us. From presenting and servicing the luxury accommodations, meals and drinks through to activities around the grounds and the smooth flow of events, the Senior Lodge Assistants are responsible for delivering all aspects of this guest experience.

  • Customer Service. We are searching for people with experience in customer service and front of house. We have many events, weddings, and gatherings at our venue so hospitality/serving experience is a must.
  • Reception and Concierge. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have reception experience and be genuine and welcoming to our guests throughout their stay.
  •  Housekeeping. As well as a fine attention to detail for the daily housekeeping duties, the candidate will possess a strong sense of organization and skills in logistics for supply orders, stock and inventory, guest bookings, etc.
  • Gardening and landscaping. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in both gardening and landscaping and be self-motivated to continue the upkeep of the grounds.  As well as aesthetically maintaining the lawns and landscaping throughout the property, the candidate will be responsible for the well-being of our vegetable garden which provides many of the ingredients our guests dine on during their stay with us.
  •  Handyman and Trades Work.  In addition to grounds keeping and gardening, this individual will serve as handyman for the retreat and will be expected to perform maintenance as needed.  As such, someone who is mechanically inclined and has carpentry experience using all power tools is very much preferred.
  • Tree Work. Along with the ability to complete new projects and mechanically solve problems as they arise, this individual will need to be adept in tree felling and have extensive chainsaw experience as wilding pine control and the harvesting of firewood is a top priority on the property.
  •  Heavy Machinery. Use of tractor, wood-chipper, and other heavy machinery is required for this position (driver’s license necessary).
  •  Health and Safety. This person will practice top notch safety and hygiene standards in all aspects of the role (first aid certification preferred).
  • Personal Attributes:
    • This is a physically demanding position and as such we require people who are fit and hardworking with the willingness to consistently perform assigned job tasks throughout the summer.
    • The ideal candidate will be well presented, a great problem solver and be self-motivated with the willingness to step into the many roles this position requires.
    • Flexibility is vital for success in this position - we are a small team with members undertaking many different tasks day to day depending on the current situation.  Accordingly, strong communication skills and a willingness to work well as a team are must-have abilities.

This is a full-time position and a flexibility in hours is necessary to accommodate our guest requirements at particular times.  The person(s) filling this role will live onsite and will need to be essentially “on call” and available to tend to situations as they arise.  The onsite accommodation is suited for two people, so we prefer to find a couple with the shared skills and responsibilities for these roles.

Paradise Found

My husband booked Mount Cook Lakeside Estate as a surprise weekend away for my 60th birthday. The location is idyllic with lots of outdoor activities on offer should you be inclined. The accommodation is luxurious, spotlessly clean, warm and welcoming. The food prepared by chef Tom is simply delicious. Fresh, locally sourced ingredients cooked to your individual tastes and delivered to your dining table. Luke, Kaye and staff could not have done any more to make this a perfect stay.
